11 memorable on-screen proposals

It isn't easy dating a smart, ambitious, stubborn and sensitive woman like "Parks and Recreation" city councilwoman Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler). And as her doting, patient boyfriend, Ben Wyatt (Adam Scott), learned earlier this season, asking for her hand in marriage is even more daunting. Ben managed the first part OK, flying in from D.C. and sneaking up behind Leslie as she looked around the house they'd intended to buy but seemingly had to give up. Problem was, once his knee hit the hardwood, Leslie could barely let him get a romantic word in edgewise, on account of her nervousness and desire to remember every nanosecond of the moment. In the end, he asked, she answered, and it was a sweet, decidedly un-cloying sitcom moment.

Naturally, this got us thinking about other scripted proposals in recent television lore. So from the farcical ("The Office") to the sweet ("Sex and the City") to the just plain doomed ("Dexter"), here are 11 unforgettable times when that proverbial question was popped — and, thankfully, accepted.
