February is Black History Month, and as we are reminded every year, history
is still being made every day. In the long and textured story of
African-American life, television has played a vital ... morerole in civil rights,
cultural identity and historical firsts.
Decades after the first black leads and first interracial kiss,
African-American actors, producers and writers are among the most important
talents working in Hollywood. In honor of Black History Month, we wanted to
celebrate some particularly notable personalities. While a full roster of
outstanding African-American polymaths could never be compiled, we've listed
here some of the most influential names in contemporary television.
