Missed Miss USA: In April, Crystle Stewart, Miss Texas, beat
first runner-up Miss Mississippi, Leah Laviano, and Miss New Jersey, Tiffany
Andrade, to become Miss USA 2008, at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in
Las Vegas. The 57th annual pageant hit the Strip as an attempt at a fresh and
edgy venue, with live music, a performance by Rihanna, and those bastions of
outré, Donny and Marie Osmond. The judges included such luminaries as Rob
Schneider, Heather (ex-Mrs. Paul McCartney) Mills, and "Project Runway" winner
Christian Siriano. Oddly, it was not so very much a ratings draw.
