A look at what stood out on the small screen
By Deanna Barnert Special to MSN TV
It's hard to believe we're closing the book on another year of TV, but, boy,
has it been a good one! The 2012 television landscape brought monster success,
Olympic fever, Lindsay Lohan drama, "Honey Boo
Boo" controversy, "Jersey
Shore" spawn and a Beatles coup. TV fans were also hit by an onslaught of
rock star panelists, gay-friendly programming, new talk shows and election
mayhem. While "Homeland," "Downton
Abbey" and "The Walking Dead" ruled the drama scene, it was another banner
year for women in comedy. Across the board, it was a year of big wins, big
losses and big goodbyes -- not to mention a few jaw-dropping moments -- but it
bears mention that moments alone do not make a network. AMC scored the most
shining moments in this roundup, and MSN TV can agree the cable network is on a
good path. In contrast, while this roundup reflects several #NBCFail moments,
the network managed to capture the coveted 18-to-49-year-old primetime audience
this fall, winning the ratings race for the first month of the 2012-13 season
and then winning its first November sweeps in nine years.
