The Real Kingmaker
Simon Cowell has never had a fellow judge the likes of L.A. Reid, who as one of the
industry's most respected record executives developed the careers of Mariah
Carey, Jay-Z, Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Rihanna, Usher and Pink (but to name a
few). In a word, ... moreReid has credibility: He knows what he's talking about, and the
contestants (and the viewers, too) should heed his words. Simon really hasn't
had the opportunity to work with a fellow judge who's as talented for predicting
future recording success, likely as opinionated and more willing to give both
good and bad feedback to get results (how else do you become such a big
hitmaker, after all?). So, while "Idol" fans will be glad to see Paula sidling
up to Simon, real armchair quarterbacks should look to the dynamics between
Simon and L.A. Reid (they're actually old friends who worked in the same record
company years ago). If you're one to read tea leaves and pick an eventual
winners from what you see in the first few weeks of the show, pay close
attention to whatever these two seasoned sets of eyes and ears can agree on.
