Biggest Prize Ever
Thanks to a relationship between Sony Music Entertainment and Syco, Simon Cowell's own television and music production
company, the winner of "The X
Factor" will receive a five-million-dollar recording contract, which is, by
a long shot, the largest single ... moreprize ever awarded on a reality competition
series. What does this all mean and why does it matter? Well, this all serves to
underscore just how committed Simon Cowell and company are to finding the best
singing talent in America. And secondly, it reminds us that all of this is just
about business: Simon's company is looking to expand its current roster of
stars, which already includes U.K. "X Factor" winner Leona Lewis, Susan Boyle and Jackie Evancho. So, while Simon is certainly
interested in winning the TV ratings game, he's more interested in the money he
can cash in on once the season is over. "The X Factor" is a vehicle for him to
find yet another profitable cash cow.
