The Situation: Ya gotta tip your cap to Rico Rodriguez, the young actor who plays
sophisticated middle-schooler Manny. He's not willing to ... morestand by idly as his
on-screen mother, Sofia Vergara, lets her attributes and ethnicity
be the butt of countless punchlines. Manny isn't necessarily svelte, and he
knows it, and despite his cool veneer, he's quick to remind his extended clan
that he has feelings, too. So when he enters the room just as Phil arrives home
with a store-bought turkey, the timing was too delicious to avoid a classic
comical misunderstanding. And, also, another example of the Marx Brothers
quippiness that keeps "Modern
Family" a slice above.
