HGTV
Once you buy a house or apartment, your perspective on real estate changes.
You become an uptight connoisseur, jealous of what other people have and curious
if you could have better.

HGTV to a homeowner is like Univision to any straight ... more man: No matter when you
turn it on, you'll most likely find something good to look at. "House Hunters" is a
mini-game show. You watch a couple look at three different properties -- whether
those are McMansions in Florida or lofts in Chicago -- and learn what appeals to
people who could just as easily be looking to buy your place. "Property Virgins" is
pretty much the same thing, only the couple usually has a much smaller budget,
which helps your feelings of superiority. "Income Property," even
if you're not looking to rent out your basement, introduces you to
home-improvement jobs you could actually do on your own. And "Holmes on Homes" is
just a way to wish you were better with power tools. The best part is, unlike
with Univision, your girlfriend will probably want to watch with you.
