The first season was all about getting to know the imperfect, hardworking staff of County General: chief resident Dr. Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards), Dr. Susan Lewis (Sherry Stringfield), Dr. Doug Ross (George Clooney), Dr. Peter Benton (Eriq La Salle), Nurse Carol Hathaway... more (Julianna Margulies) and student Dr. John Carter (Noah Wyle). Guest stars this first season included William H. Macy, Bradley Whitford, Abraham Benrubi and Ving Rhames. The top moments in Season 1 included none other than George's aunt, Rosemary Clooney, in a two-show, singing visit; Hathaway's suicide attempt and Ross' badly timed declaration of love; and Carol, left at the altar, dancing the night away anyway.
