General Hawk ("G.I.
Joe")
Really, you could pick any "G.I. Joe" character and call him "a real American
hero." General Hawk just happened to be the man in charge, and if the going got
tough, he'd happily join in the fight. The glory of "G.I. Joe" was that Cobra
had no nation ... more of origin; Cobra was just a vast, migrating legion of faceless
soldiers, and despite all the enormous gun-battles, not a single cadet was ever
seriously hurt. Those were the days.
