Laura & Sophie's long, strange summer camp finally came to a close last night on the sixth episode of "Nashville Star," as they were voted off the singing competition show by viewers. The teenage duo hailing from Willoughby, Ohio, had been battling immaturity and each other in the more recent weeks. The judges had chided the duo for allowing their friendship to disintegrate under the pressure of the show and for continuing to carry themselves as a "talent show act." Before a live audience in the Acuff Theatre, host Billy Ray Cyrus announced that the teenagers' Nashville vacation was over. Last week, Navy engineer Tommy Stanley and trio Pearl Heart were eliminated by audience vote.

Performance Recap
"Love songs" was the theme for Week 6
of "Nashville Star." Here's a look at what the final six sang and what the
judges had to say:
Ashlee: This 20-year-old Minnesota native continued to impress the judges, as she delivered an often pitchy rendition of "Cowboy Take Me Away" by the Dixie Chicks. Her attempt at a more authentically country song was breathy and flirtatious, although it seemed the audience took some time to warm up to the act. Jewel commented, "You have more of an understated style. I've always had a soft spot for you. I'm a fan." Jeffrey Steele continued with positive feedback, "This is the Ashlee that I really love. Good job." John Rich wasn't about to disagree, adding, "Tonight, you felt more comfortable than any week prior. You are constantly growing every week. Great performance." There's no doubt about it. This girl's going to make it through to the final weeks.
Gabe: The 28-year-old Texan's performance of "Must Be Doing Something Right" by Billy Currington demonstrated why he's considered the front-runner by viewers and former contestants alike. Not only did he choose a song that highlighted his vocal abilities, but his naturally unassuming delivery also seemed perfectly suited to the lyrics. This Tex-Mex cowboy knows what he's doing. Not surprisingly, he received one of the largest responses from the audience. Jeffrey remarked, "If America is going to vote for the next great singer, you have a good shot." John, himself a Texan, continued to count himself a fan, "That was a great performance." And mentor Jewel returned to her mantra, reminding him, "I still want you to flirt with the audience and look at people more." I would be shocked if this cowboy didn't make the final two.
Coffey: Having been ridiculed last week for being more "hype" than "pipes," the 20-year-old resident of Los Angeles attempted to win over the judges with an emotionally contrived version of Tim McGraw and Faith Hill's "It's Your Love," complete with teary eyes and those darned vocal trills. There's no question he's one of the weaker singers remaining, but he continues to be an audience favorite.
