Last minute replacements squander second chance

The long march toward reality TV stardom came to a screeching halt for Third Town on the second episode of season six of "Nashville Star." The trio act from Las Vegas, who made the final 12 as last minute replacements, couldn't make the most of second chances, as they became the first contestants eliminated by viewer voting. The previous week, Charley Jenkins had been eliminated by the vote of the three judges.
Who Got Booted: Third Town
What They Sang:"Mountain Music" by Alabama
What the Judges Said: The viewers had already decided Third Town's fate before the trio's final song. The group had originally planned on performing Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody," but opted instead to sing Alabama's "Mountain Music." Thank goodness. While their rendition of the Alabama classic was spirited, they demonstrated weak vocals and loose harmonies. The performance elicited no love from Jewel, who unhesitatingly declared, "You guys got the crowd going, but I've also seen the crowd get going for Japanese karaoke singers." John Rich chimed in, "I asked Randy Owen from Alabama to watch this program tonight, and I think he probably just switched the channel." The only positive comment came from Jeffrey Steele -- a fact probably owing to the fact that the record producer served as Third Town's "mentor" during the week prior to the live episode. His reaction to Third Town's swan song? Steele tried to remain positive, uttering, "I think this is your best one yet." At least for the rest of America, their best just wasn't good enough.
