Looks like Miley Cyrus has finally hit the Hollywood big time
by becoming the victim of her very own Internet hoax. The squeaky-clean "Hannah
Montana" starlet, 14, is attempting to quash a fictitious report that made
the rounds over the weekend claiming she was about to achy-break dad Billy Ray's heart by making him a grandpa.
Turns out the pregnancy story started after some pranksters altered a Miley
blurb from a recent issue of teen-targeted mag J-14, switching it from a trivial
piece on her love of -- ewww -- pimple-popping ("Miley's Gross Habits") to a
tawdry bun-in-the-oven confession ("Miley's Meltdown").
"I'm going to take good care of my baby," the Disney poster child was quoted
as saying. "I've already gained 7 pounds. I was in real shock when it happened
accidentally. I went a little too far. I'm sorry to all of my fans."
Sure, it's not exactly the most believably worded revelation, but that didn't
stop the ersatz admission from gaining traction around the blogosphere.
"It's 100 percent false," Cyrus' rep huffs to People. "Someone doctored a
J-14 article and posted this online. It's ridiculous and completely untrue.
Miley is not pregnant."
The industrious spokeswoman then attempts to make lemonade from lemons by
promoting her client's forthcoming projects: "She just wrapped Season 2 of
'Hannah Montana' and will go on tour beginning Oct. 18."
J-14, which has posted the original and faked versions of the July article
side-by-side on its Web site, is also voicing its support for the scandal-free
star.
"Miley is an intelligent, respectable role model for young girls, and we at
J-14 pride ourselves on presenting our readers with credible stories and
information," declares the mag. "This story is completely fabricated!"
In
other don't-believe-everything-you-read-online news, White Stripes drummer Meg White is beating back rumors that
she's the star of an X-rated video that's been floating around the Interweb.
TMZ.com says the doll-faced indie rock goddess, who recently backed out of
the band's planned tour because of "acute anxiety," is not the busty brunette featured in
the footage.
"Some people have a very twisted sense of humor and this prank is in
particularly bad taste," Meg's rep pooh-poohs to TMZ. "The tape circulating on
the Internet as featuring Meg White is fake. It's definitely not Meg."
