We don't have enough space to list all the reasons why we love Tim Gunn, but one that's near the top: He calls it like he sees it, no matter how famous the fashion target. And lately, the affable "Project Runway" mentor has plenty of targets.
Take Katie Holmes and her recent obsession with extra-roomy jeans, which she occasionally -- oy -- peg-rolls, or -- double oy -- coordinates with ones worn by hubby Tom Cruise. "I have to say, Katie Holmes has become so much more sophisticated in so many ways, but I think she's in a dip right now," Gunn remarks to People. "I can't explain it." Suri's Broadway-bound, coif-chopping mom, who hit the town this week decked out in a robe-like dress that failed to cover several bruises on her knees, "went from looking like a little farm girl to looking like European royalty," he continues to OK!. "Now she needs to push back a little so that she doesn't look too dowdy or old." Concludes Gunn to People, "We realize how much style she's capable of. I don't get it." He also doesn't get why Miley Cyrus sometimes dresses like she's been hanging out in the more unwholesome parts of the Happiest Place on Earth.
"[Miley] is just a little too tarty, forgive me," Tim observes to OK! of the Disney princess. "I don't want her to look like she's going into a convent school, but it's just a little too much for a 15-year-old. If I didn't know better, I'd swear she was 25!" But one person who gets an enthusiastic thumbs-up from Heidi Klum's sophisticated sidekick is Michelle Obama. "She epitomizes class and American style," Gunn tells Us. "She looks approachable." However, he can't say the same for the slightly shellacked appearance of Cindy McCain. "Cindy, on the other hand -- with her button-down suits and blouses -- looks like she's duct-taped," he zings. "Her fashion is a metaphor for her personality." |
