Is Nicole Richie shopping for two? Just days after Us Weekly declared, "Yes, she's pregnant," the stick-figure starlet, who has yet to confirm or deny whether she's incubating the spawn of Joel Madden, was spied loading up on baby items ... or was she?

E! Online's Marc Malkin says Richie recently stopped by swanky, promotion-savvy Los Angeles baby boutique Petit Tresor, where she supposedly snagged a couple of diaper bags, a stuffed bear, a mobile and more.

This was the second time in as many weeks that Lionel's DUI charge-facing little girl reportedly shelled out for the boutique's pricey products -- she is also said to have dropped a bundle during another shopping trip with Madden.

But there's a wee bit of a problem with the baby-oriented buying spree: The Good Charlotte front man insists he wasn't even aware the store existed, never mind browsed its shelves for blankies and other bun-in-the-oven necessities.

"I've never heard of the boutique Petit Tresor," he writes on his MySpace page (by the way, we took the liberty of adding in all those pesky capital letters and correct spellings and such). "We've never been there and never bought anything from there."

Unfortunately, the hopping-mad Madden doesn't weigh in on the stork chatter, saying only, "Because we don't comment on rumors, I guess some publicists thought they could get some free, much-needed help and attention marketing their store and sh***y, cheesy products."

The rocker, who has quite a strong opinion about the boutique's goods despite being previously unaware of its existence, also writes enthusiastically about spending time in his home state of Maryland (Richie is rumored to be with him), as well as ditching a habit that would be less than conducive if they were in fact awaiting the pitter-patter of little feet.

"On a positive note, it's been seven days since I quit smoking, and I'm feeling great, having had one cigarette," he reveals. "I have had my moments -- I get a little edgy -- but I think the worst is over."

Meanwhile, amid the various tabloids headlines (e.g., "Nicole's Baby in Danger!" screams the latest Star, while Life & Style goes for the less alarmist, "Nicole Cries, 'I Thought I Was Going to Lose the Baby!'") and conspiracy theories (some cynical types -- hey, don't look at us -- have posited that the baby burblings could help Richie garner sympathy ahead of her court date), there's the clamor to get the money shot of her apparently swelling belly.

The lately under-the-radar Richie has managed to foil paparazzi in recent days by clutching a large pillow to her bony body, a move one shutterbug tells the New York Daily News could be a savvy marketing ploy.

"She is carrying a pillow to hide her bump so she can sell the first 'official' pregnant picture," the photog chuckles to the paper.

But will there be wedding snaps, too? Us reiterates rumors that Nicole and Joel are hoping to make their 8-month-old romance legal sooner rather than later.

"Nicole's looking to get married at the end of August or beginning of September," a source tells the mag. "They are so happy."
