Now might be a good time for Cameron Diaz to say "abracadabra" and make her rumored
romance with Criss Angel disappear.
Why?
Because the limp-locked illusionist, 39, can't seem to stop conjuring up
headlines as he fawns over the leggy actress, 34, whom he's reportedly been
snuggling up to for several weeks.
On Monday, moments before Angel kicked off his latest stunt, which involved
escaping from a concrete-encased cube suspended above Times Square, he declared
(via Us Weekly), "This is dedicated to my new girl. You know who you are. I'll
be thinking of you."
Alas, coyness is not his strong suit.
When Angel emerged from the box 24 hours later, he announced to the cheering
crowd, "I'd like to dedicate this escape to my girl 'Trouble,' aka Cameron."
Then, before the collective shudder that surely followed this cheesy
overshare had passed, he not so deftly dropped this anvil-laden doozy: "I love
you, baby. Have a safe trip to Europe for your 'Shrek' tour."
Subtle.
This public proclamation of affection was quite a change from his Diaz stance
from days before, when he self-deprecatingly bobbed and weaved to reporters,
"It's just kind of funny to me, because Cameron Diaz is one of the most, I
think, one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood, you know, talented, has
done a million movies ... take a look at me. Do you really think she's
interested in me?"
It didn't take long for Criss, who is promoting the new season of his series
"Mindfreak," to reconsider his shout-out, and he quickly
placed the blame for his cringe-inducing candor where it belonged: on the media.
"I just said that because everyone was hounding me about it and at the end of
the day I got it out there, so my professional life is there, my personal life
is here," he explains to People.
When asked whether there's any magic happening with Cameron, who tended to
keep her four-year romance with Justin Timberlake out of the public eye, the perma-stubbled
prestidigitator showed off a few new PR tricks.
"She's an amazing person," he tells the magazine, "and I wish her the best
with her 'Shrek' tour right now, and I'm not going to discuss Cameron anymore."
Diaz, for her part, remains typically tight-lipped, although she appears to
be making the most of her solo time in Europe.
People reports that in between stumping for "Shrek the Third" in Paris, she
visited Versailles, the Tuileries Gardens and the Musée d'Orsay, where she got a
private, after-hours tour.
