If the tabloids claim your marriage is in trouble and nobody notices, should
you even bother to deny it? In the case of Courteney Cox, 42, and David Arquette, 35, the answer is a resounding yes.
The couple is denouncing recent, if little remarked upon, reports from Star
and Life & Style that allege their almost eight-year-old union -- in
Hollywood terms, that's the equivalent of a golden anniversary -- is on shaky
ground.
Star, in its "Courteney & David: On the Rocks?" story, wonders whether
the dissimilar duo, "busy with separate careers and a toddler [2-year-old
Coco]," are drifting apart, citing Cox's supposedly "flirty relationship" with
her "Dirt" co-star Josh Stewart and Arquette's purported
"neediness."
"Courteney is leading her own life and David is leading his," asserts an
insider.
Life & Style, meanwhile, plays up the Jennifer Aniston angle, claiming Cox is leaning on
her BFF, whom she bucked up during her bustup with Brad Pitt, to keep her "mind off her problems with
David and on the future."
But the Arquettes' rep adamantly denies they've hit a rough patch, fuming to
Us Weekly, "There is not a shred of truth to the rumors about the state of their
marriage. They are happily married and, like most married couples, they have
some separate friendships and interests."
Back in January, David fessed up to Howard Stern that he and Cox go to
therapy "once in a while," but chalked up their sessions to "just stress
from work."
And he was quick to clarify, "But I'm happy, don't get me wrong, I love her."
