Top Chef's Joshua Valentine urged to stay in competition by pregnant wife

Eliminated Top Chef contestant Joshua Valentine has revealed his pregnant
wife would not let him quit the competition, despite the fact she went into
labor during filming. The Dallas, Texas native was eliminated on Wednesday's
(13Feb13) episode, just one episode before the finale. And his defeat was a
bittersweet one, as just hours before he was voted out of the kitchen, his wife
gave birth to their very first child. But Valentine tells TV Guide that even as
she was in labor, she refused to let him leave the competition after going so
far. He explains, "As much as it was difficult to not be there for my wife, the
entire idea of me competing on Top Chef was from my wife. She was very
supportive and she even said, 'I want you to win.' "Even when she was in the
process of having the baby, she said, 'If you're in it, I want you to win.' She
was completely supportive. The thought me coming home and leaving the show
hadn't crossed either of our minds." With Valentine out of the running, his pals
Sheldon Simeon and Brooke Williamson will go head to head in part one of the
season 10 finale next Wednesday (20Feb13).
