Alex Trebek retiring from 'Jeopardy'?

MSN Entertainment

Alex Trebek could be stepping down as host of the syndicated game show "Jeopardy."

Zap2it.com reports that the 71-year-old made the announcement on a segment of "FOX News Sunday with Chris Wallace," which is scheduled to air May 6.

"Yes, I have been thinking of retiring," Trebek tells Wallace. "But I'm torn because I enjoy doing the show so much. A lot of people have been telling me, 'Alex, you've got to go for at least 30. You've just done 28. Now at least do two more.' So that has a nice ring to it. Put in your 30. And go help people."

The New York Post reports that the Wallace interview is part of a behind-the-scenes look at "Jeopardy" for the news program's "Power Player of the Week" segment.

Trebek began hosting the popular game show in 1984, taking over from original host Art Fleming. And he's hinted at retirement before telling Newsweek in a 2011 interview, "I don't want to do this forever."

Last year, "Jeopardy" champs Ken Jennings and Brad Butler played a round with a computer named Watson, which beat the humans soundly. Let's hope that "Jeopardy" producers don't have any plans to make Watson the new host.

I'm sorry Alex, you did not  phrase your answer in the form of a question.  The judges have ruled you can not retire.

Alex, the only game show host remaining with class and real intellect!  I hope he retires and enjoys the remainder of his years from his enrichment.  Life is very short.

Peace,

Alex you retire when you want and enjoy life without appearing on tv. But if you like the show and enjoy it then stay as long as you want you are fantastic . Jeopardy will never be the same without you.
