"American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest has been saved from a potential knife attack after an overzealous fan was arrested at the Los Angeles TV studio where the star was working.

Chidi Uzomah, 25, was detained by police on Friday after he entered the E! network building, reportedly armed with a blade, and requested to see Seacrest.

Seacrest was in the building at the time of the incident, but is not thought to have been anywhere near the fanatic, according to TMZ.com.

The show host was granted a temporary restraining order from Uzomah later on Friday, according to court records obtained by the Associated Press.

It is the second time in as many months Uzomah has been arrested within close proximity to Seacrest -- he was also convicted of attacking Seacrest's security guard in September.

Uzomah was sentenced to 15 days behind bars after pleading guilty to misdemeanour counts of battery, assault and possession of a switchblade following the altercation with the TV star's bodyguard outside the Children's Hospital in Orange County, California.

Uzomah was also handed three years' probation and ordered to destroy all weapons he owns.

If he is found to have broken the terms of his sentence, Uzomah faces either six months in prison or a $1,000 fine. Meanwhile, his bail was set Friday night at $150,000, the Associated Press reports.

A representative for Seacrest had yet to respond to requests for a comment as WENN went to press.
