Just weeks after her husband was alleged to have cheated on her with a 23-year-old schoolteacher, "Jon & Kate Plus 8" star Kate Gosselin has come under tabloid attack for a reported affair of her own.
In the May 15 issue of People, Gosselin, whose show centers around the trials of raising twins and sextuplets with her husband Jon, opens up about a rumored affair between her and Steve Neild, the family's bodyguard.
"The next story coming out from the animals that stalk us is about our security person and his family," Kate says in the exclusive interview, excerpted on People.com. "Already the allegations they're making about me are disgusting, unthinkable, unfathomable, and I am horrified."
She goes on to discuss how Neild and his family, who often travel with the Gosselins, "absolutely love us and want to see us through to the end.
"Of course, both of them travel with us at times, and we've spent holidays together, because, in this situation, your circle grows smaller and smaller," she tells the magazine.
"It's very natural to become friends with your manager, your publicist, your security team ... they're the only people you have left. And now they're coming under fire."
Both infidelity rumors have already made the Gosselins' marriage difficult, she says. And now she fears that with Nield under attack, her remaining loved ones will also be pushed away.
"I'm totally panicking, and thinking, 'We are going to lose our last set of friends,'" she tells People. "I keep calling them, begging, 'Seriously, I'm so sorry. Don't run away from us.' They keep saying, 'We're fine, we're fine.' But they have paparazzi in front of their house. It's so upsetting."
Gosselin does not explicitly deny the affair in the Web site excerpt but says the tabloids have continued to "make stuff up," connecting whatever information they can get until they have a story. Though sources close to the family have confirmed Jon Gosselin's affair, the TV dad has officially denied it.
"[The tabloid attention] leaves us essentially alone and friendless," she says. "It's a matter of 'when will they stop?'"
