Join the 'Nimrod Nation'
Real-life series follows high school basketball in a small town

Imagine "Fargo" crossed with "Hoop Dreams" and you get a sense for the eight-part documentary series "Nimrod Nation." The program, which airs on the Sundance Channel, follows the Watersmeet Nimrods, a high school basketball team from Michigan's Upper Peninsula, through the long months of their winter season. Cameras follow not just the team members, but the parents and townsfolk who rally behind them as well. In fact the only thing Watersmeet residents might enjoy more than high school basketball is hunting (or maybe ice fishing). The documentary is beautifully shot and beautifully scored, and captures small town life in a way rarely seen in non-scripted programming. "Nimrod Nation" airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Sundance.
