Stayed too late

"The Office": The hit American version of Ricky Gervais' British series might have done well to follow in its predecessor's footsteps. The British "Office" lasted, by Gervais' decree, just two seasons, and definitely left its fans wanting more. Unfortunately, the American version went on several seasons too long, including trying to continue after Steve Carell left the show in 2011. Bad idea. Some shows, like "M*A*S*H," survived critical casting changes, but even "M*A*S*H" didn't try to replace Alan Alda as Hawkeye. Carell was the dim sun around which the rest of the "Office" mates revolved, and the series has been only limping along ever since he left.
