The end is nigh! In fact, it's already happened, several times over. Hollywood loves its apocalyptic scenarios, whether it's due to disease, nuclear war or beings from another planet. There's just something about ragged individuals crawling through the ruins of civilization that gets our imaginations churning. It may be the future of our nightmares, but Judgment Day sure makes gripping television.

The latest rendition is Syfy's "Defiance," a story of catastrophe, resilience and a busted St. Louis arch, and to celebrate the end of the world, we have rounded up some of our favorite visions of terrestrial doom.
