"Fringe" (FOX)

This sci-fi series about a government group that investigates the unexplained had already amassed a loyal following by the time it dived headfirst into its dueling realities story line in Season 3, but once it did, the series opened up and began hitting creative highs. One of the coolest things about the multiple universes on "Fringe" is that the characters in each universe are aware of each other. Though the parallel universes are similar, producers wanted to show how the little changes in your life could cause major fallout. It also gave the writers an opportunity to have a bit of fun, like the long-running Broadway musical "Dogs" that appears in the alternate universe or the image of Richard Nixon that appears on currency.
