Temperance "Bones" Brennan, "Bones" (FOX)

Played by: Emily Deschanel ("Cold Mountain," "Spider-Man 2")

We have to confess that we preferred socially inept forensic anthropologist "Bones" Brennan in the early days of this show, when she was so devoted to her work life that she didn't have any time for a social life.

Instead, the program now revolves largely around the relationship between her and cocky FBI agent Seeley Booth, played by David Boreanaz ("Angel"). It's less fun without them bickering, though Deschanel and Boreanaz do try to make it work.

By the way, we'd be remiss if we didn't start a debate about which Deschanel sister we prefer: older sister Emily or her hipster younger sister, Zooey (more on her later).
