The first band up tonight is Denver and the Mile High Orchestra. In a twist,
the judges will pick a song for each band. Sheila E. selects "September" by
Earth, Wind & Fire, which creates a nice chance for Denver's soul and funk
influences to come through. John tells the band he likes their live
performances, but isn't sure they'd translate to studio work and is not sure
they'd come through on a record. Sheila E. says her personal friends in Earth,
Wind & Fire would be proud of the effort. Dicko echoes John's concerns.
The second band up tonight is The Clark Brothers. John picked their song,
"Change the World" as done by Eric Clapton. John loves the unique interpretation
the brothers put on the song. Sheila E. tells them to just be comfortable with
who they are because they're so talented. Dicko compliments them for breathing
fire into a laid back song.
So it's either Sixwire or Light of Doom. It's Sixwire. Dicko pegs them with a
Steely Dan song, "Reeling In The Years." John says he doesn't like prog rock so
much, but he still loved the performance. Sheila E. was quite impressed and of
course Dicko likes the song he picked.
Now the bands will perform a song chosen by the producers for the second go
around. Denver and the Mile High Orchestra go with "Vehicle" by Ides of March.
The judges all loved it. The Clark Brothers have "Amazed" by Lonestar.
Looooonnnnnestar! The judges were amazed by the performance, except for Dicko,
who thought it was the wrong kind of song. Oh, Dicko!
Sixwire is going with "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight" by England Dan and
John Ford Coley. The '70s rock is frequent tonight. The judges thought it was
okay. Could've been better. Maybe an Eddie Rabbit song?
There's a third round! This time the bands choose their own songs. "You Move
Me" is Denver and the Mile High Orchestra's original number. The judges were all
into it and stuff. The Clark Brothers do a tune called "This Little Light of
Mine / Faith Faith Faith." John says he thinks the boys deserve to win, Sheila
E. loves it and Dicko says the brothers make traveling to America worth the
effort. Sixwire closes the show with "Good To Be Back." The judges were all
highly impressed.
And that's it for this week. |
