Parents Just Don’t Understand: TV's Most Embarssing Moms and Dads

By Kenny Herzog
Special to MSN TV

This Sunday at 9 p.m., Showtime's sex-crazed dramedy "Californication" wraps up its litigiously minded fourth season. But more than ever, a theme to emerge from its middle-age promiscuity and depressive self-destruction is the dysfunction all this creates between a child and her father. Hank Moody, as played by the ever-smarmy David Duchovny, has wreaked havoc on himself, his ex-wife Karen and, most of all, his teenage daughter, Becca. The MENSA-intelligent metalhead high schooler has caught her father with multiple sexual partners, dopily stoned and wasted drunk -- often all at once. And throughout this current season, she has endured his trial and conviction for statutory rape. In other words, he might be the most humiliating fictional parent in pop-culture history.

Fortunately for Moody and "Californication" mastermind Tom Kapinos, there have been countless TV portraits of embarrassing moms and dads, and here are  10 more of our favorites -- even if their on-screen kids would rather have been born to anyone else.
