Stars of the Disney Channel original movie
discuss roles, life and favorite songs
By Minh Nguyen Special to MSN TV
MSN TV was invited to the set of Disney Channel's latest TV movie, "Let
It Shine," which is set to premiere on Friday, June 15, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. It
was a chilly sunny day in October when we hit the set, filmed on the outskirts
of Atlanta. The movie, a version of the classic "Cyrano de Bergerac" tale, tells
the story of Cyrus (Tyler James Williams from "Everybody
Hates Chris") and Kris (Trevor Jackson of "Eureka"), who enter a music contest in which Kris is
mistakenly crowned the winner to Cyrus' song. Cyrus stands by as Kris receives
all the accolades and also the love interest, Roxxie (Coco Jones from
Disney's own "N.B.T."). We spoke to the stars of the movie about their life on
the set, their favorite music and what they hope their fans get out of the
movie.
MSN TV: What's life like on the set?
Coco Jones: I am blessed to be with some of the greatest actors I ever met.
Honestly, when I came here, I didn't know all that much. These actors have
taught me so much. They've done so much work. I just listen in on what they do
and then I get better at what I do.
Tyler James Williams: Very relaxed, one of the things we wanted to establish
early was a lack of stress. There's nothing worse than working on a movie,
especially this [movie] -- because it's summertime -- and having it be
stressful. We're enjoying this, enjoying each other.
Trevor Jackson: It's great. Everybody here is so nice, and Coco and Tyler are
like my brother and sister now. We hang out after every time we shoot. It's one
of my dreams, so I'm having the time of my life.
What can you tell us about your co-stars?
Tyler James Williams: Coco is an extremely talented singer. She is one of the
most gifted young singers I've heard in my life, and she is only 13. There's
nothing but good things ahead for her. Trevor is a phenomenal dancer, which is
really odd because he's really tall. He does all these flips. He has to be the
slowest flipper just because his legs are so long it takes them forever to
rotate.
What can you tell us about your role?
Coco Jones: My character, Roxxie, she has two sides. She starts out as this
bigger-than-life pop star, the insecure one who listens to what people say more
than what she thinks. Roxxie and I at the end have a lot in common. We both have
a lot of confidence, we believe in ourselves and we don't care what other people
say. We're just happy to be ourselves.
Tyler James Williams: I play the role of Cyrus. He's a fella who is going
through an interesting journey in his life. He loves music and making music. His
father doesn't necessarily agree with the music that he likes.

Frankie's new employer Dr. Goodwin (Jack McBrayer) isn't too pleased with her lack of punctuality. "The Middle" airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
