Henry Winkler on 'Kick Buttowski: Suburban
Daredevil'
Emmy Award-winning actor guest stars in spelling
bee-themed episode
Classic television star and Emmy Award-winning actor Henry Winkler gets animated this weekend as he
guest stars on Disney XD's show "Kick
Buttowski: Suburban Daredevil." Winkler plays Principal Henry, a character
who was named after him, and recruits Kick to compete in the annual spelling bee
when Kendall comes down with food poisoning. To help Kick prepare for the
competition against the school's undefeated rival, Principal Henry uses some
unusual training methods.
Sandro Corsaro, creator and executive producer of the show, said of working
with Winkler, "We had a lot of laughs with Henry throughout the series. While
not only an incredible actor, he has a tremendous sense of how character
relationships really drive our stories -- particularly when Kick meets a
monumental challenge and has to partner with an unlikely ally, such as the
principal."
The idea for the episode came about while Corsaro was watching the Scripps
National Spelling Bee on ESPN. During casting, the producers wanted someone
who was cool and would resonate with dads to play the part, and
they decided The Fonz definitely knew a thing or two about being
cool.
Winkler said of the role, "It is so much fun paying a principal, the very
character that frightened me so in real life."
The "Kick Buttowski: Suburban Daredevil" episode featuring Henry
Winkler airs Saturday, May 19, at 11 a.m. ET/PT on Disney XD.
