"Mad Men" is
back, and with it some of the best fashion in TV history. Not since Patricia
Field slipped Sarah Jessica Parker into a silver
tutu and cotton-candy body suit on "Sex and the City" has a TV show so riveted the
fashion world. And ... more"Mad Men" has been measurably more influential. Top American
designers like Michael Kors, Peter Som and Tory Burch have all referenced the
1960s-set show in recent collections, with Kors even offering his customers (at
least those spending $350 or more at his online boutique) a free set of
Season 1 DVDs. The show's costume designer, Janie Bryant, is
single-handedly responsible for making a fashion icon out of the metaphorical
man in the gray flannel suit, as well as for making curvy the most covetable
shape around. (See: Joan.) (AMC)
