Hookups & Breakups: Paris Plays the Field; an 'Idol' Split
Posted Jan. 13, 2009

George Clooney fans can breathe a big sigh of relief. Despite alarming reports recently linking him to Paris Hilton, her amorousness appears to be focused elsewhere. People magazine reports the short-attention-span starlet was "all over" San Francisco Giants baseballer Barry Zito at new Los Angeles hot spot MyHouse last Friday. Paris, who called it quits with Benji Madden in November and was recently quoted as telling Glamour UK that she's "only ever done it with a couple of people," apparently looked "really happy" as the pair drank, hugged, whispered sweet nothings, laughed and touched digits during the night. The mag says she also got her groove on by dancing on tables, couches and Zito. No word on whether he got to first base. Still, it seems the bank-busting pitcher is keeping his options open. TMZ.com caught him out on the town the other night with a quartet of young ladies in his car. When a paparazzo pointed out, "You got hot chicks, dude," Zito replied, "They're not mine."

Just in time for the new season of "American Idol," two past contestants are back on the market. David Cook and Kimberly Caldwell, who started dating not long after he won "AI" last May, have gone kerplooey. "Kimberly and David ended their relationship just before the holidays," Caldwell's rep (she has a rep?) informs In Touch. "The couple remain good friends and, being very private people, appreciate their privacy at this time." The cougar-beloved, "heartthrob"-tattooed Cook first asked out Caldwell, who was drop-kicked from Season 2 about halfway through, while she was interviewing him ahead of the "Idol" finale for the TV Guide network. "I'm just excited because I finally get to talk to you," he told her at the time. "I've been hearing you say all these nice things about me all season. So, I'm actually going to ask you to dinner right now." So, what went wrong? One Cook pal has a theory. "He has a lot of options and wants to explore them," the buddy informs Us Weekly. "He doesn't want to be tied down."

Is it a breakup and a hookup for Kate Bosworth? The New York Post claims the once-again rickety-looking starlet has parted ways with model-beau James Rousseau, whom she began dating in the fall of 2006, not long after her split from Orlando Bloom. What's more, she was reportedly seen holding hands and generally looking friendly with film financier Ryan Kavanaugh at the star-packed Art of Elysium benefit Saturday night in Los Angeles. Bosworth's rep, however, says they're just pals.

Jared Leto is apparently doing his best to live up to his reputation as a sunken dreamboat. A spy snipes to the New York Post that the actor appeared "gross" and "disheveled" at a pre-Golden Globes bash Saturday night at Los Angeles club Edison, where he "went up to girl after girl after girl, put his arm around them and said, 'Let's go [bleep]!'" His magnanimous offer was supposedly rejected by one and all. The next night, reports OK!, Leto turned up at a post-Globes shindig at Sunset Tower Hotel, where he spotted recently married former flame Scarlett Johansson. An eyewitness tells the mag he "spent most of the evening hitting on [his ex], who certainly didn't seem to mind." She was probably just being polite and feeling relieved that she no longer has to put up with his caddish boyfriend behavior, like checking his phone while she was attempting to kiss him.

Katy Perry seems to be working through her holiday breakup with Gym Class Heroes front man Travis McCoy by using the stage as a therapy session. E! News reports she shared her feelings on love and loss as she performed an acoustic set Monday night at the Hotel Café in Los Angeles. "It hurts right now," the girl-kissing popster told the crowd as she introduced her latest single, "Thinking of You," which she described as "one of those slit-your-wrists" songs. "Like when you break up with somebody and you don't wanna move on, but you have to move on ... And sometimes you find yourself making out with somebody else and you feel like you're cheating. But you're not cheating because you're broken up." Perry, however, insists she didn't emotionally purge in public. "I enjoy being myself on stage and that's what you expect of me," she wrote on her blog Tuesday. "I have made many of the same introductions [to songs] before ... just lately everyone's dissecting my every word. Understandable. When I wanna share something with the world, the world will know ... otherwise, stop looking for a story, or an explanation."
