Popular Searches 19Comments Oct 15, 2012 12:14AM I was young and devoted to the "1987 soapy iteration" of Beauty and the Beast! Seeing all the previews for the revamp are disappointing to say the least but that's been the case for pretty much ALL the hollywood revamps of old shows. There's not too much "beastly" about the new Beast so really...what's the point? Please leave these old shows alone!! Come up with something new and better instead of always trying to go back recreate the wheel!! 10 of TV's most noteworthy reboots By Kenny Herzog Just because the seeming majority of prime-time television is either unscripted reality shows or resurrections of classic series doesn't necessarily mean that networks are out of ideas. But it does suggest they know a sure thing with an established demographic when it's pitched their way. That's just one explanation for the surge in TV reboots — the total recasting and reimagining of a long since canceled hit. Another reason could be that producers and writers are simply living out their fantasy of paying homage to the first few generations of small-screen entertainment that inspired them. In the case of "Beauty and the Beast," it's perhaps a little from Column A and Column B. Still, it's hard to fathom anyone paying an overly earnest tribute to CBS' 1987 soapy iteration of the classic fairy tale starring Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman. To each his own. In any event, we've assembled 10 reboots from the past few decades to illustrate when a concept has the potential for fruitful modernizing ("Battlestar Galactica") and when a dead horse is simply beat and cannibalized to no productive end ("Charlie's Angels"). We'll leave it with you to ponder what other past favorites could be next in line to get dusted off.
