With dozens of pilots set to premiere this fall television season, we've caught on to the many trends that have emerged to help you navigate your upcoming viewing experience. In this fourth part of our series, we take a look at the ever-trendy police procedural, as seen in the upcoming series "Ironside" (NBC), "Murder Police" (FOX) and "Gang Related" (FOX).

There's something immensely addictive with police dramas. Police dramas, specifically of the procedural type, have been likened to the "comfort food" of television. Mashed potatoes and gravy, macaroni and cheese, and meatloaf are comfort foods because they're dependably satisfying, so what makes police dramas comforting, especially when they're rife with dangerous situations?
