Ideas for Halloween from our favorite shows

By Robert Isenberg
Special to MSN TV

Every year, millions of kids dress up for Halloween. They spend weeks dreaming up their costumes, and they put tons of imagination into their adopted personas. But we adults have a harder time. A Halloween party just isn't complete without alternate attire, but what to wear? People our age are too old for Dora the Explorer and too mature for sexy nurses. What fits the season and earns some knowing smiles?

We at MSN TV have a special bias for small-screen personalities. Here are some favorite characters from recent TV series -- eerie, awesome and hilarious -- who should be instantly recognizable. And feel free to recommend your own.

Green Arrow ("Arrow")

Like a Robin Hood outfit designed by hipsters, the Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) costume is easy to assemble, convenient for autumn weather and cool-looking, whether people identify you or not. You can obtain a decent bow for not much money, and a forest green hood over the eyes is a perfect Halloween look. Trimmed beards and grim glowering encouraged.

Alternative: A giant red eyepiece and an all-black outfit will make you a frightening Deadshot.
