| 'Tis the Season Premiere |
"VAMPIRE DIARIES," SEASON 4, OCT. 11 (THE CW) What could have been a trendy but unsuccessful stab at both teen drama and vampire goings-on has emerged as the CW's most adored hour of television, thanks in large part to smoldering cast members like Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley and Kat Graham. Like "The Walking Dead," "Vampire Diaries" has kept up its practices of taking liberties with its published source material, which could be another key to why it's worked. Or, perhaps, that's owed to the series' willingness to knock off leading ladies, resurrect dead teens in the bodies of others and stage dramatic farewells between ghosts and humans. And that's just how we left things in Season 3. Not that one should expect "Dawson's Creek" angst or "Gossip Girl" class wars in a town not-so-subtly dubbed Mystic Falls.
