For our money, no 2012 dramedy went to loftier heights than Showtime's
pill-popping mama drama, particularly given that "Nurse Jackie" was already
entering Season 4 and could have become complacent and formulaic. Instead,
rightful Emmy nominee Edie Falco -- along with new regular
Bobby Cannavale as her tyrannical
boss -- took this half-hour show from breezy delight to gripping, heartbreaking
places without losing its workplace humor or perspective on everyday life's
absurd edges. "Louie" tends to get all
the anti-sitcom adoration of late, but "Jackie" merits a generous dose.
