"
The
Inbetweeners" (Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on BBC
America)
Take the humor and sensibility of "
Flight of the
Conchords" and mix it with the honest awkwardness of "
Freaks and Geeks" and
you end up with this British coming-of-age comedy that follows four buddies
navigating
... more sixth form (that's junior and senior year for us Yanks) in suburban
London. Though the quartet partakes in many of the rituals familiar to high
schoolers -- drinking, chasing girls, driving (though our heroes have little
luck at any of them), the writing itself isn't predictable. Like a lot of
British series, "The Inbetweeners" has very short seasons -- six episodes in
total -- though BBC America is showing the series' first two seasons back
to back (with a third on the way in England). The creators have also been tapped
to adapt an American version of the series for ABC, though we can only hope it
ends up more like "The Office" and less
like "Life on
Mars." Close
