And, yes, viewers were treated to yet another appearance of Tatiana Del Toro, Nick Mitchell (aka Normund Gentle) and Bikini Girl. The impressive display of star power was a compelling reminder that "American Idol" remains a cultural phenomenon, even despite news that Tuesday night's show was the series' lowest-rated final performance night ever.
Even so, Kris' victory caps a compelling season and provides one of the biggest reality TV upsets in quite some time. Don't worry too much about Adam, however. If Simon was correct Tuesday night, the Hollywood rocker will certainly look forward to a successful recording career, especially since his string of strong performances has made him one of this season's most talked-about TV personalities. He is, without a doubt, already a superstar. In the meantime, Kris remains one of the show's most likable personalities. And you'll find no complaints from this corner of the couch concerning his stirring win -- a result no one saw coming some weeks ago, but certainly an outcome all in "Idol" nation can be pleased about.
