One tough mother: Ali Landry is one of the
competitors on "The Superstars." |
First challenge: Swimming across a lagoon. Wow, it looked so far, but I had
to convince myself that I could do it. I was on the swim team when I was
younger, so I knew that I could hang in there. Jeff lives on one of the lakes in
Austin and owns boat and motorcycle dealerships, so I knew that he would feel
totally comfortable in the water. Most of the guys decided to go first, so we
decided that Jeff would go first as well. The plan was, as soon as Jeff got to
the other end of the lagoon, a light would go off signaling for me to go. If for
some reason the light didn't go off, someone at the sideline would yell for me
to go. Unfortunately my light didn't go off and because I had a swim cap on, I
couldn't hear them yelling for me to go. Needless to say I got a super-late
start.

While I was in the water I was ahead of Joanna Krupa, so I wasn't going full
speed. I didn't realize that this would ultimately hurt our time. Because the
light didn't signal me and I wasn't able to hear them yelling, they decided to
time us from takeoff to the finish line. Due to the fact that I wasn't going
full speed, our time wasn't as good as it could have been. I'm really afraid now
because Jeff and I need to do the best we can in each challenge in order to stay
away from that obstacle course. The night before, the ropes killed me. I did not
want to go back!
Next challenge: Basketball! I have never played
basketball. What am I going to do? Lisa Leslie has four gold medals from playing
basketball. How in the world are we going to do well in this competition? Well,
I guess we have to just go out there and do our best.
We tried to
figure out a strategy. I was going to shoot where I felt most comfortable, even
though it had a lower point value, and then pass the ball to Jeff. I was going
to have to do this as fast as possible so he could make the big points. We ended
up doing great! I was so proud! I had no idea I could actually make baskets.
Jeff was a little disappointed, though, because he thought that he should have
shot baskets with higher point values. That would have bettered our score and
possibly put us in a better position to avoid the obstacle course. The shocker
of the day was that Lisa didn't do so great. I felt so bad for her because this
is her sport. It just goes to show you that anything can
happen.
After this long day of competitions, guess what? We are
going to the obstacle course. Sadly, we were eliminated, but make sure to tune
in next week for more drama in the Bahamas.
Blog to you next
week,
Ali Landry
